Family Record

This color lithograph print “God Bless Our Family” was initially annotated by hand in 1871, then passed down through the generations to fill in the new family members. With handling over time this family record had been creased, torn and two of the top corners were lost.

Preservation Process

Our client wanted to conserve their family history for future generations in this beautiful lithographic format. Carrabba Conservation, Inc. surface cleaned the item to remove all dust and debris that had accumulated over the years, mended the tears and supported the creased areas with archival tissue. The missing corners were replaced by creating a digital reproduction of the existing corners to complete the image. All breaks, and pigment losses were inpainted to visually complete the image area. The entire document was then relined and spray de-acidified to help preserve the inherent acidic materials of the Family Record.
